After an exciting Friday night of cutting out coconut tree decorations (yes, that was exciting for us, haha) for Lucie's birthday party, I heard Robby yell, "Ohhhh my goooosshhhh!!! Drea???!!!!"
... I promise to finish the story but in addition to that, scroll through for pictures from the last month, including family photos in Central Park, Lucie being a champ at the hospital for her ear tubes, my Mom's visit during thanksgiving, our Cousins visiting from Georgia, and Lucie's Chicka Chicka BOOM BOOM themed birthday party to celebrate that she's turning two (TOMORROW)! This time of year is always filled with reminders of the time surrounding Lucie's birth and the journey we were propelled on. Every day she shows us just how well she is suited for her name, Lucille Carolyn: Light Bearer and Song of Happiness. Not a day goes by where the Goose isn't singing some song to herself, dancing and clapping. What a blessing and humbling privilege it is to be her mama and dada. We pray that she will continue to spread light, joy and song to all she meets and that as she gets older she would also come to know the true Light, Jesus, who we also celebrate during this Advent season.
So back to the story from a few weeks ago... I ran to the bedroom as fast as I could and was worried because Robby was yelling and Lucie was sleeping -- what in the world must be going on? Well, he had seen a mouse. And it had just run UNDER Lucie's CRIB!
Ok, not cool!
Many of you know we live on 2nd avenue, and for the last THREE years we have been surrounded by tons of construction for the new subway extension. Well, the good news is, there's an end in sight! We have new sidewalks, we have a Starbucks less than a block away and we have trees! The bad news is, the bodega downstairs is going through a renovation to be all cute for the new train traffic, so all that work on the first floor of our building must have scared every mouse away and not one, but two made their way up to our apartment. (We'll get back to that.) It's safe to say I barely slept that night!
Saturday night we went out to dinner with our good friend Barry and got to meet his girlfriend (now fiancée - woohoo). At dinner Lucie wasn't acting like herself and about halfway through the meal she got sick everywhere -- twice! We took her home, settled her down and put her to bed, all the while hoping the mouse had left. We still thought it was just one. We could hear scratching from behind the fridge so we set some traps around it and in less than hour we caught it! Rob got the trap and was walking out the door when he said, I think I hear another one! He left and I stood in the quiet kitchen listening. I moved one step closer to the fridge and the second mouse bolted out and ran under our bedroom door!!! Seriously!? So Saturday night was another long night to say the least!
On Monday I headed on a trip to Dallas and Rob crushed it flying solo! He kept Lucie home from school, took her to the doctor, got her antibiotics ANNNND had our super and our building's exterminator come in to take out ALL the appliances to seal up the apartment because of the mouse. Then he headed out to coach, and about half an hour later, during Lucie's speech therapy session, the mouse ran from under the stove across the kitchen and back under the fridge. Since he was coaching, Aly and Marci filled him in just as he got home. Right after that, Bess had an accident in her kennel, he cleaned it up and theeeen right after that she had another accident. I felt so bad when he was telling me the whole story!
All of that was over a week ago and fortunately we haven't seen the mouse since. Hopefully it managed to find a way out!
After two weeks of cough-filled nights, Lucie's cold also seems to have subsided, but not before she gave it to me and Robby too, haha! We're all getting better and looking forward to the next two weeks with family in FL and PR to relax as much as possible.
After the last few weeks, I just wanted to share this story because it really felt like a whirlwind -- in the middle of it all, it can be so exhausting -- but it's our life together in New York City and I want to remember it. The good, the bad and the crazy. And now you know why I haven't had a chance to blog in over a month!
Love to you all!
